Karam Assaf

Eight year old Karam was born with a congenital condition that left his right leg missing above the knee. He received his first prosthesis at just two years old, learning early on how to adapt to a world not always designed for him.

Growing up in Ghor made regular prosthetic care difficult due to the distance and limited access to services. At school, the experience was even harder. Karam struggled with bullying, which affected his confidence and happiness.

Determined to give their son a better opportunity, his family moved to Sweileh in Amman. There, Karam enrolled in Yarmouk School’s inclusive education program, a turning point that offered him both support and belonging.

This February, Karam was fitted with a new 3D-printed prosthesis. Since then, he has been walking with renewed confidence — and a smile that says everything about his resilience and bright future.
