Sixteen-year-old Ibrahim is a survivor of the devastating Turkey earthquake that struck in February 2023. His family had been living in a refugee camp in Turkey since fleeing the war in Syria in 2012, hoping to find safety and rebuild their lives.
Trapped under the rubble for three and a half days before being rescued, Ibrahim endured unimaginable loss. The disaster claimed the lives of his parents, his sister, and two of his brothers. Ibrahim and his only surviving brother were the only members of their immediate family to make it out alive.
His injuries were severe, and doctors at Adana Hospital had to amputate both of his legs below the knee. He spent two weeks there relearning basic movements, including how to sit again, before continuing his long recovery with six months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy at Menesa Hospital.
After this long journey, Ibrahim and his brother returned home to live with their uncle. Determined to move forward, Ibrahim went back to school, where his friends stood by his side, supporting him every step of the way.
Before the earthquake, football was his greatest passion—a source of joy and freedom. Today, with his new 3D-printed prostheses, Ibrahim dreams of stepping back onto the field, chasing the ball and the life he loves, proving that even after unimaginable hardship, hope and courage can still shine through
