Osama is a 7 year old Syrian boy whose childhood was shaped by war far too early. Forced to flee his home, his family sought safety in a tent.
One morning, after breakfast, Osama and his siblings were doing what children everywhere do: playing, laughing, unaware of the danger hidden beneath the ground they now called home. An unexploded bomb, left behind by the war, changed everything in an instant.
The explosion took Osama’s left leg below the knee, caused shrapnel injuries to his other leg and abdomen, and shattered his family forever. He lost one brother, while another siblings were badly injured.
When our team met Osama, he greeted us with a big smile, one that bravely hides immense pain. Behind that smile is a young boy who feels sad and helpless, emotions no child should have to carry at such a tender age.
Our mission is to help Osama walk again. To give him the chance to run, play, and return to school—just as children should. With the right prosthesis and care, Osama can reclaim his childhood and take his next steps toward hope.
